This new ingestible beauty product has the highest serve of collagen on the market

As someone who hasn’t slept in a year (#newmumlife) my skin routine these days goes something along the lines of:

Step one: Intend to cleanse and moisturise.

Step two: Repeat the above. Sometimes, even actually do it.

As a beauty editor, this makes me itchy, both literally and figuratively. But one thing I can do is drink (partly because I can do this one handed, something Mums are expert at). And this is one of the many reasons I’ve been a long time fan of ingestible beauty products. The other big (huge!) reason is that ingestibles multi-task, fixing my skin and my gut at the same time so I have more time to, you know, cure cancer and write that trilogy I’ve been meaning to pen.

So when Optima Nutricosmetics’ Complete Skin Food Elixir came across my virtual desk I was already up for hooking it to an IV and pumping it straight into me – for those reasons alone. But delving a bit further had me even more excited. Yes, there are other ingestibles on the market (ones which I use and love), but there are a few things that makes these guys different.

One of the biggies is that they have the highest clinically trialled effective dose of collagen (10,000mg) – and the highest serving size of it – on the market. And it’s MSC certified sustainable marine collagen at that.

As you probably already know, collagen production is one of those things that starts grinding to a halt as we age, so this will help kickstart the process, stimulating production and helping produce better quality collagen. And, of course, the flow on effect from this is plumper (so good for fine lines), more hydrated, firm and smoother skin.

The Skin Food Elixir has been in production for two years, the brainchild of a Nutritional Scientist and Marketing Exec (Cate Lilja and Karissa Mather), who both had decades of experience working for big name beauty and health companies, before coming together to create Optima. Their common goal was to develop a pure, potent, proven, food-based beauty brand that reflected their ethical and sustainable values. With this in mind, the Skin Food Elixir naturally ticks off other ingestible beauty must-haves like pre and probiotics to nourish the gut and improve digestion; antioxidants to combat oxidative stress from environmental factors; and essential vitamins and minerals for hair, nails and immune function. But, it does all this in proven scientific dosages, so you get more bang – and results - for you buck.

I know, it’s one of those things that sounds too good to be true, but i did try it for two months, and everything they say is true. And believe me, it had some hard work to do. Never has there been a tougher test subject than someone who has replaced skin care with baby vomit for a year. For me, the biggest change was to the clarity of my skin. All the sleep dep had given me a fetching grey tone, but I definitely got some of my long-lost glow back. Now, if I could only reunite with my other forgotten friend, 8 hours sleep.
